HD Hyundai Infracore Achieves Industry's First Platinum Rating for Zero Waste to Landfill Certification

▶ Certified by UL Solutions, a global leader in applied safety science – First in the construction machinery industry   ▶ 100% recycling of waste generated during product fabrication and processing at the Incheon plant   ▶ Commitment to resource recovery and minimizing environmental impact; this achievement follows four consecutive years of Gold certification  HD Hyundai Infracore has become the first company in the global construction machinery industry to obtain the highest level of ‘Zero Waste to Landfill’ certification.  On the 25th, the company announced that its Incheon plant had received the ‘Platinum’ rating—the top tier of certification—from UL Solutions, a global leader in safety and environmental certification.  The Zero Waste to Landfill certification is a global program that evaluates and grades a facility's waste management practices, including recycling and reuse.  The program is divided into three tiers based on recycling rates: Platinum (100%), Gold (95%-99%), and Silver (90%-94%), which serve as indicators of a company's capabilities in resource circulation. This year, HD Hyundai Infracore’s Incheon plant achieved a 100% recycling rate, earning the Platinum rating and marking a first in the industry. This milestone follows the plant's 95% recycling rate in 2021 and a consistent 96% rate from 2022 to 2023, which allowed it to maintain the Gold rating for four consecutive years. According to the Ministry of Environment's ‘National Waste Generation and Treatment Status’ (2023) statistics, the average recycling rate for industrial waste is 84.4%.  To further enhance recycling efforts, HD Hyundai Infracore captures fine dust produced throughout the entire manufacturing process—including assembly, fabrication, and processing—and recycles it into raw materials for bricks and cement. Instead of incinerating general waste, they shred and grind it to transform the waste into solid fuel. The company is committed to implementing innovative resource recovery initiatives, including the use of recycled foundry sand and the repurposing of waste foundry sand. Additionally, the company emphasizes reusing cutting fluids and carefully separating and recycling cutting chips during engine machining, converting potential waste into valuable materials. An official from HD Hyundai Infracore stated, “Achieving the Zero Waste to Landfill Platinum rating is external recognition of our ESG management efforts. We will continue to expand resource circulation and minimize our environmental impact.” Additionally, HD Hyundai Infracore has consistently enhanced its environmental management by investing a total of 70.6 billion won over four years, starting in 2021, into environmental facilities at its business sites. The company has voluntarily committed to achieving carbon neutrality.
