▶ Signs an MOU with the Republic of Korea Army Headquarters to integrate unmanned and autonomous technology and systems into military fields
▶ Discusses smart construction equipment training for soldiers and the development of specialized unmanned machinery
▶ Donates 20 million KRW to support the bereaved families of fallen soldiers
HD Construction Equipment is collaborating with the Republic of Korea (ROK) Army to enhance unmanned construction machinery technology and to jointly train personnel to operate and maintain smart construction equipment.
On July 5, HD Construction Equipment announced that it had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the ROK Army Headquarters at Gyeryongdae in Chungcheongnam-do on the 3rd. The MOU focuses on "Technical Exchange for Construction Equipment Automation and Maintenance Personnel Training." The signing ceremony was attended by approximately 20 key officials from both organizations, including Moon Jae-young, CEO of HD Construction Equipment, and Major General Ha Heon-cheol, Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics of the ROK Army Headquarters.
This agreement aims to implement and assess unmanned and autonomous technologies and systems at military sites, addressing the changing operational conditions for construction equipment resulting from reduced military personnel. Additionally, it seeks to establish a stable operational system for construction equipment by developing skilled maintenance personnel.
Under the agreement, HD Construction Equipment and the ROK Army will collaborate on deploying autonomous construction machinery for key military missions, including wartime damage restoration, facility reinforcement, and disaster relief. The partnership also focuses on creating an integrated control platform to seamlessly manage fleets of both manned and unmanned machinery simultaneously.
In addition, HD Construction Equipment will offer specialized maintenance training for the construction equipment currently used by the military. In return, the ROK Army will provide HD Construction Equipment employees with national security education and opportunities to visit historical battle sites within the country.
Prior to the agreement, HD Construction Equipment invited ROK Army logistics and engineering officials to its Global Training Center in Eumseong last month for a live demonstration of autonomous technology. Following the showcase, the two sides discussed developing specialized unmanned machinery tailored for both military operations and civilian relief efforts.
Recently, HD Construction Equipment has been expanding the real-world deployment of its autonomous technology by supplying autonomous excavators to large-scale construction sites and mines in Europe and conducting field verifications.
"This agreement fosters practical cooperation, enabling both parties to mutually evolve unmanned and autonomous technology in construction machinery," stated Moon Jae-young, CEO of HD Construction Equipment. "We will maintain our strong partnership to further the advancement of the construction machinery industry and promote peace and security in the Republic of Korea."
During the signing ceremony, HD Construction Equipment donated 20 million KRW to the ROK Army to support the families of soldiers who died in battle or while on duty.
